Appealing Against the Light? – Snow!

Believe it or not the World’s first underground cricket match which was scheduled to take place between Threlkeld and Braithwaite in a cave in the old Honister Slate Mine in the Lake District in England. Quiet why anyone would want to play underground is beyond us, as the first appeal against the light would undoubtedly bring proceedings to a halt.

However believe it or not the game was called off not because of bad light, or lack of light, but due to heavy snow!

This is a very inauspicious start for a game that may well have hoped to have the same history as the annual match carried out on Goodwin Sands in the middle of the English Channel. This game has been contested since 1824, and must be completed before the tide comes in.
