All Night Queues For a Press Conference!

It is not unusual for sports fans to queue early for tickets to major sporting events, but to queue for a press conference, that is almost unheard of, but it happened last week in the USA.

Boxing fans started queuing at 3am in Houston, Texas, for entry into a press conference for Floyd Mayweather jnr and fellow unbeaten champion Saul Alvarez. The two are due to meet in September and the fight is expected to beat all US revenue records.

Ten thousand people jostled to hear the verbal exchanges between the two at the Press conference. With the fight to be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas having sold out all of the 17,000 tickets in 12 hours maybe many thought this was their chance to be a part of this historic bout.

The two are embarking on a 10-city promotional tour not seen since the heyday of middleweight boxing when the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvellous Marvin Hagler, Thomas “the hit man” Hearns and Roberto “Stone fists” Duran were going head to head. In Alvarez’s native Mexico City, 32,000 people turned out to see the pair.

When tickets went on sale ringside seats were priced at approximately AUD$2200 each, these are according to some sources now being sold for up to AUD$22,750 each!

The fight is expected to generate USD$13million, and they said boxing was dead!
