A United Front

Sport as we have shown continues to break down boundaries around the world in a way politicians can only dream about.

This has been witnessed again as three unlikely allies have joined forces to try and save Wrestling from being thrown out of the Olympic Games.  Russia, Iran and the United States have all joined up to form a united front to try and keep one of the Olympic Games original sports in the Olympic program. All sports vying for inclusion in the 2020 Olympic Games will have their fate decided in a meeting to be held next month. If Wrestling can make these three nations unite, then surely it should retain its place?

Another sport pushing to be re-admitted that has also managed to break down political barriers is Baseball. In this sport Cuban Antonio Castro, the surgeon son of former President Fidel has organised an historic series between the USA and Cuba in the hope of helping this sport’s push to be re-admitted to the Olympic program.

Once again if it can get two countries such as Cuba and the United States of America working together then they too deserve to have their case listened to.

Sport is a great avenue in which to put aside all differences and unite people from all races, creeds and colours. It is important that those privileged to be trusted to run various sports never lose sight of this fact. Based on these incidents give us more sport!
