Britain has often been regarded as one of the last bastions of male chauvinism in the Western World and the London Olympic Games it would appear are not going to do a lot to break that mould.
It has been announced that only men will carry the trays of flowers and medals at the podium ceremonies, while the women will be given the task of escorting the athletes and officials to the podium for the presentations.
This is the first time in Olympic history that the flower and medal bearers will be all male.
There will be 200 male volunteers making history as opposed to 100 females helping the athletes and all will be dressed in purple outfits designed by students at the Royal College of Art.
For those interested in trivia, there will be 4,400 victory bouquets presented at the London Games and these will be made up of British-grown flowers and herbs.
